The only post-graduate program of its kind in Atlantic Canada that focuses on the study of water and wastewater.

Many areas throughout the world are facing a crisis over the supply and quality of drinking water, water for growing food, or that used for manufacturing. These areas also face an enhanced environmental responsibility requiring the treatment of wastewaters from all types of processes.

In this program, you will gain an appreciation of the complexities of marine systems, watershed management and the role of technology in managing water resources. You’ll also become knowledgeable of the wastewater process science and technology employed in industrial and municipal areas. Our goal is to provide you with an understanding of the ecological issues affecting our water supplies and the knowledge to treat, maintain and use our resources safely and efficiently in an environmentally conscientious manner.

Program Structure

This program can be completed in two 13-week academic terms, a technical session and a 13-week work term. The program consists of a balance of theory and practical applications through lectures, discussion seminars, case studies, laboratory, field trips and projects.

What You’ll Need

This program is ideal for individuals who want to enter the water and wastewater fields or who are looking for skills upgrading. To enter this program, you must have a bachelor degree in science or a diploma of technology and have completed introductory courses in biology and chemistry.

Student Experience

This program allows people from different science backgrounds to specialize in the water quality field by expanding and applying it to their own field while also learning about its applications in other fields. The Advanced Diploma in Water Quality complemented my Bachelor of Science, giving me a specialization and making me more competitive in today's job market and definitely helped me get a job with Halifax Water.
